PORTSMOUTH — One isn’t just the loneliest number, it’s the only number for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

Chesapeake scored just one run but it was enough as Melanie Noble’s pitching made it stand up as the Lady Panthers blanked the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 1-0 on Saturday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Noble pitched a two-hitter as she struck out 11 and walked four.

“Melanie pitched really well and we came up with a clutch hit. We’re really young, so this was a good game for our girls to gain some valuable experience,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Andi Queen threw well in defeat. She gave up five hits, struck out 11 and walked one.

Chesapeake (5-5) got the only run of the game in the sixth inning.

Kelsey Huff had a leadoff single, courtesy runner Alexis Kerns went to second on a ground out, and Lyric Bair had a two-out RBI single.

Chesapeake lost 6-0 at Lawrence County, Ky., on Friday when they committed five errors that led to five unearned runs.

The Lady Panthers play at Coal Grove on Monday.
