PROCTORVILLE — Smith might be one of the most common names in America, but there was nothing common about this pitching performance.

Lexi Smith pitched a three-hitter as the South Point Lady Pointers blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 12-0 in five innings on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Smith struck out five and walked three to get the win.

“We didn’t play well. We are not hitting the ball right now and making too many mental mistakes. Hopefully, we can regroup and move on,” said Lady Dragons’ coach Mindy Clark.

South Point didn’t have trouble hitting. The Lady Pointers had 10 hits as Smith went 2-for-4, Haley Rawlins 2-3 with two doubles and Adkins 2-3.

Caitlin Stone was 2-3 and Ellen Hinshaw 1-3 for Fairland’s only hits.

South Point took advantage of three walks and four errors to score nine runs in the first inning.

Smith tripled and Rawlins doubled to start the uprising. Smith later had an RBI single in the inning as South Point had just three hits in the rally.

Rawlins doubled and Emilee Powell singled as South Point got a run in the third to make it 10-0.

In the fourth, two walks and a two-run single by Abbey Winkler capped the scoring.
