CHESAPEAKE — How are the Fairland Lady Dragons’ bats and zombies alike? They both came to life last night.

Fairland banged out 14 hits en route to a 10-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.

“The bats came alive. Kazee hit well and everybody hit the ball. Fridley did a good job behind the plate and she hit well, too,” said Fairland coach Mindy Clark.

“Shepherd pitched really well. I was worried about how the heat would affect her.”

Allison Shepherd allowed just two hits as she struck out seven, walked one and hit one to get the win for Fairland (8-9, 4-7).

Kazee went 4-for-4 with a run batted in, Fridley was 2-4 with a double, a triple and four RBI, Mackenzie Riley 2-4 with a double and RBI, and Ellen Hinshaw was 2-4 with an RBI.

Fairland erupted for six runs in the top of the third inning.

Mollie Morris and Caitlin Stone reached on errors for a run. Hinshaw singled in a run, Shepherd had a sacrifice and Riley doubled home a run. Kazee singled and Fridley had a two-run triple. Runnells was safe on an error for the final run.

Chesapeake got its run in the bottom of the inning when Kelsey Huff tripled home Laura Rice who reached on an error.

The Lady Dragons made it 9-1 in the fifth.

Riley and Kazee singled and Fridley had a two-run double. Runnells singled and Morris grounded out to drive in a run.

The final Fairland run scored in the sixth on an infield hit by Shepherd and Kazee’s RBI single.
