Brandon Schob didn’t have to be overpowering, just over the plate.

Schob threw a two-hitter as he changed speeds and kept hitters off-balance and the Rock Hill Redmen edged the Ironton Fighting Tigers 3-1 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“WE just did not hit the ball,” said Ironton coach Larry Goodwin. “Hunter Weber had a big hit when we rallied in the seventh, but we fell short.

“Rock Hill showed a lot of grit. They made some great plays in the field and hit the ball well.”

Schob struck out two, walked three and hit three batters. Drew McClaskey was 3-for-4 and Schob 2-3 to lead the offense.

Hunter Weber was 2-3 with a double for Ironton (9-9).

Rock Hill got a run in the first inning when McClaskey singled, moved up on a passed ball, went to third on a sacrifice by Sean McFann and scored on a passed ball.

The Redmen made it 2-0 in the third.

Shawn Wilds walked, went to second on a ground out, McClaskey singled to put runners on the corners and Corey Noel had a two-out RBI single.

Rock Hill added a run in the fifth for a 3-0 lead.

McFann and Noel were hit by pitches and Schob had a two-out run-scoring single.

Ironton tried to rally in the seventh but only managed one run.

Hunter Klaiber was hit by a pitch, Weber doubled and Andy Bruce hit a sacrifice fly.

After a ground out, Tanner Price walked and Dane Wilson was hit by a pitch. But Schob was able to work out of the jam when Luke Diamond hit a line drive that was caught in left field.
