4 players, relay team qualify for regionals

CHILLICOTHE — It was a day of ‘fours’ for area track athletes.

Four individuals and one four-man relay team qualified for the regional meet during the first day of the Division III district track meet.

The top four qualifiers advance to the regional meet to be held Wednesday, May 27, and Friday, May 29, at Fairfield Union High School. The top four finishers at the regional advance to the state meet.

The Coal Grove Hornets’ Austen Pleasants won the discus with a toss of 148-9.

In the pole vault, Coal Grove’s Eli Willis — a state qualifier last year — cleared 12-6 to win the event.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers had two vaulters advance as Jon Maynard cleared 10-6 and Tim Maynard 10-foot as the placed third and fourth, respectively.

Coal Grove’s Kimo Baldwin was fifth at 10-feet.

The Hornets’ 4×800 relay team qualified for the regional by placing fourth. Austin Bridges, James Webb, Tyrell Morrow and Wyatt Schultz had a 9:44.38 time.

Coal Grove’s Jacob Clark was fifth in the long jump at 18-9.25 and Ranze large seventh at 18-2.

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets 4×800 relay team of Lauren Meyer, Tori Holmes, Melody Daniels and Courtlyn Lewis ran an 11:41.70 time to place seventh.
