Defendants admit crimes in court

Several Lawrence County residents made court appearances Wednesday to enter guilty pleas for their crimes.

Kevin Newcomb, 27, of 689 County Road 52, Ironton, pleaded guilty to a third-degree count of tampering with evidence and a misdemeanor count of possession of drugs. Judge D. Scott Bowling ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for June 4. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety and $10,000 own-recognizance.

Robert Willis, 33, of 35 Township Road 150 Pedro, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree theft of money from Pizza Hut, to which he pleaded guilty.

Bowling set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR. Sentencing was set for June 4. Defendants are eligible for bond until sentenced.

Zachary Morrison, 27, of 44 Township Road 1325, Proctorville, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of theft from Orica. Bowling set sentencing for June 10.

Deeanna Cornell, 34, of 20 Township Road 1227, Proctorville, pleaded guilty to two fifth-degree counts of receiving stolen property and a fifth-degree count of forgery.

Bowling sentenced the woman to 11 months in prison.

Marla Laber, 38, of 1830 Ohio Furnace Road, Franklin Furnace, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to Mended Reeds.

Tony Edwards, 37, of 125 Township Road 1161 Lot 16, Proctorville, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to 28 months in prison.

Christina Anderson-Willis, 36, of 2033 State Route 243, Ironton, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Michael Abshire, 36, of 1677 Sixth Ave. Apt. 7, Huntington, was arraigned on counts of fourth-degree theft of a motor vehicle and fifth-degree theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $25,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR plus GPS. A pretrial was set for June 10.

Ashley Murphy, 33, of 82 Township Road 1088, Proctorville, was sentenced to four years CCS for two fifth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, to which she previously pleaded guilty. Bowling also ordered the woman to complete treatment at Mended Reeds, pay a $1,250 fine, suspended her driver’s license for six months and ordered her to complete 200 hours of community service.

Randall Jenkins, 23, of 2530 1/2 S. 13th St., Ironton, was sentenced to four years CCS for counts of fifth-degree theft and misuse of a credit card. He was also sentenced to complete the STAR program and 200 hours of community service.
