Peter Underwood

Nov. 24, 1983 — May 16, 2015

Peter J. Underwood, 31, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was tragically killed in a car accident on Saturday morning, May 16, 2015, near Atlantic, Iowa. Born in Eltham, England, on Nov. 24, 1983, to Robert Underwood and Margot Bowen.

Prior to coming to Nebraska as the Assistant Soccer Coach at UNL, Peter spent two years as an assistant coach at Montana and three years as a graduate assistant coach for Marshall’s men’s and women’s soccer teams. He earned a bachelor’s of sports psychology degree from Concord University in 2006 and a master’s degree in athletic administration from Marshall in 2006. He is a native of London, England, and then moved to the United States, playing one season of varsity soccer at Concord, before the program was dropped. He then embarked on his coaching career, serving as a student assistant coach for the women’s program. Underwood earned a Union European Football Association (UEFA) coaching ‘A’ license.

He is survived by his wife Austin; their two young children, daughter, Lyla, and son, Jude; parents, Robert Underwood and Margot Bowen; sister, Renata (Tony) Padilla; mother and father-in-law, Bob and Sissy Clyse; brothers-in-law, Tyler (Savannah) Clyse and Crosby Clyse; sister-in-law, Sunni Clyse; nieces and nephews, Jess and Bella Padilla and Finley and Briar Clyse; his beloved dog, Lady Bigglesworth; and many more friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, 611 Center St., Ironton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Peter Underwood Memorial Fund at any U.S. Bank location.

Ricky Crager

Jan. 27, 1958 — May 15, 2015

Ricky Crager, 57, of South Point, died Friday, May 15, 2015. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, with pastors Harold Hamlin and Brad Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Gateway Cemetery. Ricky was born Jan. 27, 1958, in Huntington, West Virginia, a son of Wanda Canterbury Crager and the late George Crager.

He is survived by his three sons, Ricky (Shayna) Crager Jr., Chris (Brittney) Crager and Derek Crager; three grandchildren, Christian, Avery and Jase Crager; two sisters, Brenda (Sid) Webb and Vickie Crager; numerous extended family and friends; and one granddaughter arriving in August. Rev. Donald Comer

Dec. 1, 1933 — May 19, 2015

Rev. Donald Ray Comer, 81, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Coal Grove native was born Dec. 1, 1933, a son of the late John and Hazel Stapleton Comer. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Faye Davis Comer, whom he married Dec. 15, 1951.

Mr. Comer was a 1951 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and was a former steelworker at Armco, retiring in 1993. He was a member and former pastor of the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, was an instructor at the Landmark Bible College and has his PhD in theology. He also pastored several churches in the Tri-State area. He was also a retired Dawson-Bryant High School team chaplain for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Comer; four brothers, Ralph Kenneth Comer, Dick Comer, James Comer, and Jack Comer; and three sisters, Glenna Comer, Edna Mae Comer and Judy Jones.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Dickess, of Ironton and Shanna Comer, of Ironton, whom he raised as his daughter; a son, Larry Comer, of Ironton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Long and Rev. Larry Comer officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.

James Rice

Sept. 12, 1946—May 18, 2015

James G. “Buddy” Rice, Sr. 68, of Ironton, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Pickering House in Lancaster. The Ironton native was born Sept.12, 1946, the son of the late Garald G. and Eva Layne Rice.

Mr. Rice attended Ironton High School, was a former iron worker for the Dayton Malleable Iron Co. and was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Rice.

He is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Calvin) Graves of Currituck, North Carolina; a son, James (Liesel) Rice, Jr. of Logan; a brother, Chet Hide Jr. of Columbus; six grandchildren, Valen Mays, Derek Rivard, Curtis Rivard all of Gorham, Maine, Melanie Rice of Heath, Clayton Rice and Lily Rice, both of Logan; and two great grandchildren, Zackary Mays and Adalen Mays.

Funeral services will be noon Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Joel Seymour officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Wanda Henderson

Wanda G. Sheets Henderson, 93, of Proctorville, died at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Jeff Black and pastor Mike Smith officiating. John Buckley

John E. Buckley, 83, of Proctorville, died Wednesday at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Winona Fink Buckley.
