Feline shelter applauded

Many times when we think about animal shelters, the first thoughts that come to mind could be the conditions or the animals that have to be put down for a variety of reasons.

Some of those thoughts could change now thanks to finishing a long-term project at the Lawrence County Animal Shelter, of creating a place for cats at the shelter that will allow for developed area only for felines to reside.

Additionally, those thoughts are not to knock those who operate or work at the shelters. In many cases a lack of funding and other resources are the main issue.

This is a good step in the right direction for the shelter and the county, as it presents an additional asset to use in caring for those animals that are dropped off or picked up by the animal control staff.

We applaud the efforts of both the staff at the shelter along with all those who played a vital role in ensuring this project came to fruition for those animals who are housed in the shelter.

Ultimately, while we would like to see more animals find homes, having the space available to adequately accommodate the needs of the shelter will be a benefit for all involved.
