Upcoming mayoral elections in South Point, Chesapeake and Proctorville have sparked people’s interest in taking on the position.

In South Point, four have picked up paperwork including current mayor Ron West, Jeff Gaskin, David Classing and Bill Patrick.

Current Chesapeake Mayor Dick Gilpin has picked up petitions to run for mayor of Chesapeake again, along with Michael Ferguson, Tommy Templeton and Paul Hart, who also picked up paperwork for clerk/treasurer.

In Proctorville, mayor Rick Dunfee will run for another term, as the only one so far to pick up paperwork and file at the board of elections. Currently, none of the candidates in South Point and Chesapeake have filed.

Petitions must be completed with the correct number of valid signatures and filed at the board of elections by Aug. 5.
