ATHENS (AP) — Authorities in southeastern Ohio say a series of arrests have put a dent in the region’s heroin trade.

The Athens County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday announced felony charges against 14 people alleged to have been involved in a heroin ring that has been operating since 2011, bringing drugs from Columbus to Athens.

The defendants were either arrested Monday or were already in jail on dozens of charges that included possession and trafficking in heroin, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and tampering with evidence. They range in age from 22 to 53.

Prosecutors said the ring recently started dealing in cocaine.

The investigation involved multiple agencies.
