Whitwell rezoning to be voted on tonight at council

Rezoning the Whitwell School from a Residential-2 to a Residential-3, proposed by developer and the building’s owner Jack Hager, will be voted on at tonight’s council meeting.

Hager’s plan to convert the building into a 25-unit apartment complex for senior citizens and veterans with a parking lot in the back has received criticism from neighbors and an unfavorable recommendation from the planning commission. Because of that six votes are needed to pass instead of four.

If the rezoning change fails to pass council, Hager will still be able to convert the building into four apartment units as an R-2.
