Headlines on today’s Ironton Tribune did not read, “Intersection accident claims two lives,” but it might have been.

Last evening as I stopped my SUV at Seventh and Spruce, I saw no traffic coming from the right on one-way Seventh Street, so proceeded East across the intersection.

My passenger screamed “look out!” I took my foot off the accelerator. Instantly, two girls on bicycles passed in front of the car as they rode north down the middle of Seventh going the wrong way.

The riders seemed too young to have drivers licenses, but old enough to read and follow rules of the road.

Parents, please be sure your bike riding children know enough to ride safely on the roads before setting out across town.
