CHILLICOTHE — Once Symmes Valley got rolling, it was like a snowball going down a steep hill.

The Vikings shook off a slow start as they got their offense going in the second half and rolled past the Huntington Huntsmen 32-0 Friday in the season opener.

Leading 13-0 at the half, the Vikings scored twice in the third quarter and totaled 19 second half points en route to the win.

Collin Webb led the Vikings with 70 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.

“We played well in the third quarter. We got things rolling,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

The defense was impressive the entire game as the Vikings held the Huntsmen to just 29 net yards including a mere one yard rushing.

“Overall, the defense played very well. We shut them down until the offense got going and then held them down the rest of the game as well,” said coach Webb.

Huntington was unable to move the ball on the game’s opening possession and had a bad snap on a punt.

The Vikings recovered at the 3-yard line and Webb scored two plays later for a 6-0 lead.

Derrek Smith hit Webb with a 19-yard pass to the goal line but he fumbled the ball. Teammate Curtis Lybrand jumped on the ball for the touchdown and Blake Bowen’s conversion kick made it 13-0 with 8:00 left in the half.

Brandon Craft returned the second half kickoff 35 yards and the Vikings went 58 yards in eight plays capped by Smith’s 14-yard pass to Jarod Sheppard for a 19-0 lead.

Symmes Valley came back with a 62-yard, 8-play march as Webb went the final 14 yards for the score and a 25-0 lead.

After holding the Huntsmen on downs, the Vikings went 13 yards in five plays to score on a 5-yard run by Smith and it was 32-0 with 3:48 to go.

Smith was 6-of-10 for 52 yards and a touchdown. He also ran seven times for 29 yards.
