COAL GROVE — Ace isn’t always just the place for hardware.

The South Point Lady Pointers were serving up aces as they swept the Coal Grove Lady Hornets in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game on Tuesday.

South Point swept the varsity match 25-15, 25-9 and 25-10 behind a 15-ace serving performance by Leah Lawson and the Lady Pointers racked up 27 overall aces as a team.

“Serving was the key again tonight,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Allen Perry.

Olivia Abner led the offense with 13 kills and a block. Rachel Wheeler had 5 points, 3 kills and 2 blocks in a solid all-around game.

The defense was led by Selena Marcum with 6 digs.

“She had one of those nights where every one of her passes were spot on and propelled the offense,” said Perry.

In the reserve game, the Lady Pointers won 25-10, 25-16.

South Point hosts Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a league game.
