In what has become a pre-election staple, the Concerned Citizens of the Burlington Area are gearing up for their meet the candidates forum.

Although this particular event has a focus toward races that will have a direct impact on the Burlington area, the idea of forums like this are essential for every community throughout Lawrence County.

Voting is not only a right, but also an important responsibility that we have as residents of the United States. The ability to meet with those seeking to lead our villages and communities, county, state and country is a critical component to making an informed decision.

The event will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at Burlington Elementary and will include candidates running for various Fayette Township offices along with the South Point and Lawrence County school boards.

We commend the efforts of all those involved in working to ensure these forums are held each year. And we hope that as many residents as can attend this along with any other candidate forums that will allow voters to meet directly with those seeking to hold public office.

Ultimately, it is just as important for the voter to gather this information as it is for the candidates to convey it.
