WILLOW WOOD — Getting a win was as easy as one, two, three for the Symmes Valley Vikings.

The offense, defense and special teams all played a key part for the Vikings as they beat the Green Bobcats 48-6 on Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We played well in all phases of the game,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

“We took full advantage of the field position our defense put us in, the offense executed and score and the special teams blocked a kick and score a touchdown.”

Symmes Valley (2-3, 1-1) had 201 total yards including 193 on the ground. The defense held Green (1-4, 0-2) to just 68 total yards — all on the ground — and the specials teams used a blocked punt to set up a score, returned a punt for a touchdown and got a 41-yard field goal by Blake Bowen.

“I thought the defense played well, the offensive line played well and the backs did an excellent job of blocking for each other,” said Webb.

On the second play of the game, Green fumbled and the Vikings’ Joe Williams recovered at the 18-yard line.

Three players last Webb went 3 yards for a touchdown and Bowen’s kick made it 7-0.

Symmes Valley recovered a fumble on the next kickoff at the 7-yard line and Levi Cade score two plays later to make it 14-0.

A bad snap on a punt gave the ball to the Vikings at the 16. Derrek Smith ran 1-yard for the score and it was 20-0 with 3:39 left in the quarter.

The special teams scored when Webb returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown and it was 26-0 with 1:48 on the clock.

Tyler Dement blocked a punt and set up a shot 14-yard, three-play drive as Brandon Craft scored on a 5-yard run and it was 32-0.

The Vikings got the ball back on their own 19-yards line and Cameron Meadows scored on a 15-yard run. Bowen kicked the conversion for a 39-0 lead.

Bowen then boomed a 41-yard field goal with 27 seconds left in the half and it was 42-0.

Austin Waugh’s 43-yard scoring run with 9:06 left in the third quarter opened up a 48-0 lead.

Green avoided the shutout on a 1-yard scoring run by Tyler Darnell as time expired.

Six different players scored touchdowns for the Vikings and 10 different players carried the ball.
