Shorty after being sworn in as mayor of Ironton, Katrina Keith has made a change to what she’s calling her “team.”

This morning John David Willis, the city’s building and code enforcement officer, was terminated.

“I feel like I need a strong team for me and I’m just assembling a team that’s going to help me move the city forward,” Keith said. “We’re going to do some restructuring to help us run more efficiently and effectively.”

Willis worked for the city of Ironton for four years as the building and code enforcement officer, building superintendent and also assisted with the street, floodwall, sanitation and water departments. Willis also ran for the Ironton mayor’s seat in the November general election.

“The letter is dated Dec. 1, but the termination doesn’t take effect until Jan. 1,” Willis said. “But I’m not continuing through December. I think it’s best to move on as quickly as possible.”

As of now, Keith said she doesn’t have anyone lined up to replace Willis.
