CROWN CITY — Talk about your big finishes.

After scoring 31 points over three quarters, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings erupted for 30 points in the fourth quarter as they rallied to beat the South Gallia Lady Vikings 61-39 on Saturday.

South Gallia held the lead thanks to six 3-point goals before the Lady Vikings’ offense kicked in.

“We told them to keep moving and keep the pressure on their shooters,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter. “We played well in the fourth quarter.”

Jensyn Shepherd had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Kaitlyn Payne had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings (5-2).

Meranda Hayes and Breanna Brumfield scored 10 points each in the win. Brumfield had seven assists and three steals. Payton Walsh had four assists and three steals.

McKayla Pollin scored 15 points and Aaliyah Howell 10 for South Gallia (0-6).

The Lady Rebels took a 16-11 first quarter last as Pollin scored 7 points.

Payne had 8 points in the second quarter to offset a pair of 3-pointers by Howell as Symmes Valley got within 29-27 at the half.

Neither team could find the basket in the third quarter as the Lady Rebels held a 35-31 lead.

But then came the fourth quarter with Shepherd scoring 8 points as the Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Rebels 30-4.

Symmes Valley hosts Sciotoville East on Monday in a league game.
