BEAVER — The engine stalled.

The Symmes Valley Vikings couldn’t get started and the Eastern Eagles hit the gas as they raced to a 68-45 Southern Ohio Conference win on Friday.

Eastern (6-0, 3-0) started the game with an 8-0 run and led 25-13 at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles then built a 45-19 halftime lead.

“We started out slow and they started out fast. Our first three possessions we turned it over. They’re pretty good,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

“We didn’t play terrible, they just out-shot us. And we gave up too many second shots.”

Shawn Belville scored 20 points to lead the Vikings (2-5, 1-2).

“Belville had a pretty good game,” said Saunders.

Ethan Leist scored a game-high 24 points for the Eagles. Tyler Hale and Clay Martin had 10 points each.

Leist scored 11 points and Martin had 8 points to put Eastern up. Belville scored 7 points in the quarter.

Leist scored 9 points and Hall 6 as the Eagles blew the game open.

Belville scored 6 points in the third quarter as both teams scored 15 points. He had 5 more points in the fourth quarter as the Vikings outscored the Eagles 11-8.

The Vikings host New Boston on Tuesday.
