ASHLAND, Ky. — Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach never knows if his team is going to play well or poorly.

Tuesday, they played well.

The Lady Hornets put together an strong offensive effort as they beat the Rose Hill Lady Royals 68-39.

“We are like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It depends on what day it is on who is showing up to play,” said Roach.

Kaylee Beals poured in a career-high 31 points including 16-of-18 at the foul line. Emily Compliment scored 13 and Kasey Murphy had 12 as Coal Grove improved to 5-11.

Coal Grove was 23-of-36 from the foul line as a team.

“Kaylee Beals was able to get to the foul line and knocked them down when she was there,” said Roach. “I’m really happy with the progress we have made this year.

“Murphy did a good job scoring early. (Bailey) McKnight is doing a better job of coming in and handling the pressure to give Compliment a rest. Compliment scored her typical points and played a nice solid game.”

Sarah Sizemore scored 14 points for Rose Hill (6-10).

Six different players scored in the first quarter — Beals had eight and Murphy six — as Coal Grove took a 22-11 lead. Sizemore hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Lady Royals.

Murphy had six more points in the second quarter while Natalie Fyffe had five for Rose Hill and it was 33-22 at the half.

Beals scored 10 points and Compliment added five as Coal Grove outscored Rose Hill 18-6 to build a 51-28 cushion.
