WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings are working in the right direction.

The Vikings nearly upset Beaver Eastern on Tuesday and beat New Boston on Friday. Saturday they added another win as they got past the Rock Hill Redmen 58-51.

“It’s really good to get the win. We’re starting to build some consistency,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders. “We knew their record this is a rivalry game and they had the size on us and they have some athletes.”

Shawn Belville had 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Vikings (6-10). Payton Hayes added 12 points while Jarod Sheppard hauled down 15 rebounds.

Rock Hill (0-17) was led by Nathan Turvey’s game-high 22 points that included four 3-pointers. Tyler Damron had 16 points.

Hayes hit a pair of 3-pointers as Symmes Valley took a 13-8 first quarter lead. Damron was 5-of-6 from the line in the quarter.

Turvey scored seven points in the second quarter and Alex Nance four as the Redmen tied the game at the half, 23-23.

“We went about four minutes in the second quarter without scoring,” said Saunders. “That drought hurt us, but we played a pretty good ball game in the second half and we got the job done in the fourth quarter at the foul line.”

Belville scored eight points in the third quarter as the Vikings took a 40-36 lead. Turvey had seven points for the Redmen.

The Vikings went 10-of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter with Hayes 6-fot-6 and Belville 3-of-5 as he scored seven points.

Damron and Turvey combined for 10 points in the quarter.

The Vikings host Green on Monday and Western on Tuesday in league games.
