COAL GROVE — Gage Rhoades didn’t return to the court on Tuesday, he held court.

After being out the past two games with a hamstring injury, Rhoades returned and scored 29 points to lead the Chesapeake Panthers to a 60-44 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Hornets on Tuesday.

Brad Meadow added 16 points for the Panthers (16-5, 10-3).

Cole Gannon hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead the Hornets (6-11, 3-9).

After taking a 12-6 first quarter lead, the Panthers were up 16-11 with 5:30 left in the half when Coal Grove came back to grab a 20-18 halftime lead. Gannon had two trifectas and scored eight points to give the Hornets the lead.

Chesapeake came out the second half and outscored Coal Grove 21-10 to take a 39-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Rhoades scored nine points including a 3-pointer while Meadows and Jake Stevens each went 4-for-4 at the foul line.

Gannon kept the Hornets close as he hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven points.

Rhoades scored eight points as the Panthers built a 49-31 lead, but Coal Grove went on a 10-0 run to get within 49-41 with 2:27 to play.

The Panthers converted 7-of-8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Aaron Music had six of his seven points in the quarter.

On Friday, Chesapeake hosts Fairland and Coal Grove visits Ironton.
