Alice Short

Oct. 11, 1920—Feb. 18, 2016

Alice Mary Thomas Short, 95, of Kitts Hill, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Princess, Kentucky, native was born Oct. 11, 1920, the daughter of the late Edward Orley Thomas and Pearl Tufts Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chester E. Short, whom she married on June 28, 1964.

Mrs. Short graduated high school in Grayson, Kentucky, and was a seamstress for Cinderella Fashions in Ashland. Alice was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed supporting the evangelistic outreach ministries in Lawrence County, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Don Jackson; four sisters, Virginia L. Thorne, Opal H. Shockey, Lucille V. Pendelton, and Evelyn R. Broulette; and three brothers, Charles W. Thomas, Maurice E. Thomas, and Junior Norris Thomas

She is survived by a daughter, Retha Gayle (Bob) Johnson, of Kitts Hill; two sons, David Owen (Janice) Jackson, of Greenfield, Indiana, and Rick (Connie) Jackson, of Kitts Hill; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Jane Jackson, of Rush, Kentucky; a sister, Phyllis Jean Hutchinson, of Olive Hill, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Langdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Loren Kent Jackson, David Brian Jackson, Chris Jackson, Greg Jackson, David Jackson and Wayne Adkins. Robert Brislin

Nov. 18, 1928—Feb. 19, 2016

Robert C. “Bob” Brislin, 87, of Ironton passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

The Ashland native was born Nov. 18, 1928, the son of the late Leo Brislin Sr. and Marie Miller Brislin.

Mr. Brislin faithfully attended St. Lawrence and St. Joseph Catholic Churches in Ironton and was a U.S. Army veteran that served in the 1st Calvary Division of the Korean War.  Bob worked and retired from Allied chemical in South Point, the H-Coal and South Point Ethanol plants with Ashland Oil.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by son, Robert D. Brislin; a grandson, Steven M. Brislin; five brothers, Leo Brislin Jr, Raymond Brislin, Joseph Brislin, Bernard Brislin and William Brislin; and a sister, Rose Marie Smith

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Helen L. Valentine Brislin; a daughter, Sharon (Adam) Littlejohn, of Ironton; a son, David Brislin, of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Brislin, of Ironton; two granddaughters, Kayla Brislin and Casey (Joe) Sark, of Ironton; two grandsons, Dr.Ryan (Victoria) Brislin of Ironton and Christopher (Luann) Brislin, of Ashland; special nephew, Steve Brislin, of Ashland; and several great-grandchildren

As Bob had requested there will be no visitation. Public graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Woodland Cemetery with Father David Huffman officiating.

Jerry Rockwell

Jerry John Rockwell, 73, of Bradenton, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Elva “Pat” Rockwell; sons, Scott Rockwell and Ricky Rockwell; daughters, Debbie Rockwell and Terri Noel; sister, Barbara McClellan, three grandchildren, Brittany Holsinger, Summer Noel, and Fisher, and three great grandchildren, Virginia Bonner, Claire Brown, and Noah Fisher. He was pre-deceased by his brother; Tom Rockwell.

Jerry was born in Ironton to Harold and Marjorie Rockwell. He proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. After serving he worked at and retired from Ashand Oil Refinery. He was a member of the Eagles.

Jerry enjoyed watching all sports but was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Kentucky Wildcats, and Nascar.

Patricia Brown

Patricia L. Brown, 79, of South Point, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at the Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home in South Point.

Graveside services will be at noon on Monday in the Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington. Brown Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
