CHESAPEAKE — Anna Darby got going and she took her Rock Hill teammates with her.

Darby went 3-for-4 with a double and two run batted in as the Redwomen beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 11-1 in six innings on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Anna had been struggling a little at the plate but she kept battling. She had four great at-bats tonight and was able to get herself going,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

“Obviously, I have a lot of respect for the program Chesapeake runs. It was nice to come in and get a big win.”

Rock Hill (6-0, 2-0) had 12 hits with Kaci Russell, Makenzi Harrah and Taylor Hall all going 2-3 and Riann Keating 2-4 with two RBI.

Jill Hairston got the win with a four-hitter. She struck out seven and walked one.

“We just gave up too many runs. You have to make teams earn it in this game,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice whose team was guilty of eight errors.

“Rock Hill did a good job taking advantage of their opportunities and their pitcher did a nice job. Rock Hill swings the bats well.”

Rock Hill went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

Russell was hit by a pitch, Hairston singled and an error on the play scored the run.

Chesapeake got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Laura Rice walked, Melanie Noble reached on an error an Ryleigh Swann doubled.
