Pointers win behind Henline’s 2-hitter

SOUTH POINT — This one didn’t take long.

South Point Pointers’ Jonathan Henline and Cross Lane Christian’s Timothy Zuspan locked up a in a pitcher’s duel as the Pointers got a 2-0 win on Tuesday.

Both pitchers gave up only two hits. Henline struck out eight and walked three while Zuspan fanned four and walked one.

The only two runs of the game came in the first inning.

With one out, Chris Woodard singled and Henline reached on a two-out outfield error that scored Woodard. Brandon Layne then reached on an error as Henline scored.

The only other baserunner for the Pointers the rest of the game was Douglas Shaffer who singled in the third and walked in the fifth.

Cross Lanes didn’t get a hit until Christian Kennedy singled in the fifth. Zach Matheny singled in the sixth for the other hit.

South Point hosts Rock Hill at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Ironton St. Joseph on Thursday.
