SOUTH POINT — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers did more with less.

The Lady Fighting Tigers had few hits than runs, but they used their hits in key spots to beat the South Point Lady Pointers 8-4 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was good to get another win tonight, but we can’t be satisfied with just six hits,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“We simply just hit the ball right to them. The girls have got to relax and just put the bat on the ball like they’ve been doing. They can all hit. I know they can.”

South Point took a 1-0 lead in the third on two hits and an error.

Ironton answered with three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good.

Shay Cox reached on an error, Kenzie Cremeens singled and Aley Carmon slugged a three-run homer.

“Aley Carmon’s home run was the spark we needed. She crushed it,” said Fields.

The Lady Fighting Tigers got two runs in the fifth.

Kylie Barcus singled, stole second and third and Haylee Stevens had an RBI single.

Stevens stole second and scored when Cox reached on an error.

South Point got three runs in the sixth on hits by Leah Lawson and Jamishua Anderson, a fielder’s choice and Haley Rawlins’ two-run single.

But Ironton got the runs back in the seventh.

Rylie Vaughn walked, Barcus hit into a fielder’s choice, Stevens doubled, Cox had an RBI single, a wild pitch scored Stevens, Cremeens walked and Carmon hit a sacrifice fly.

Stevens went 2-4 with a double. Carmon got the win as she struck out eight and walked three.

On Wednesday, Ironton hosts Rock Hill and South Point visits Coal Grove.
