Bobcats take pair of SOC wins over Portsmouth Clay

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Clay turned out to be putty in their hands.

The Green Bobcats racked up 25 hits over two games as they beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers in a pair of Southern Ohio Conference games.

Green had 13 hits as they beat Clay 9-2 in the regular game on Tuesday. The Bobcats finished with 12 hits as they completed Monday’s suspended game by scoring six runs in the ninth inning for an 8-2 win.

“Our bats came to life in both games tonight. We got a lot of production up and down the lineup,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“Trevor Carver had a big night. He got two wins and had a big night at the plate. Tyler Johnson had a big night, too.”

Trevor Carter got the win in relief of Monday’s game and went 6.1 innings to win the Tuesday game. He also went 4-8 in the two games with a double and six runs batted in.

Green (7-5, 6-0) went up 3-0 in the first.

Tanner Kimbler singled, Tayte Carver walked and Josh Karshner singled. A throwing error put runners at second and third. Trevor Carver grounded out for a run and Tyler Johnson singled in a run.

The Bobcats got a run in the second on a single by Hunter Lewis, a stolen base and Rylee Maynard’s two-out single.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third when Karshner singled, stole second and Trevor Carver doubled.

Green blew the game open with four runs in the fourth to make it 9-0.

Lewis doubled and Kimbler singled him home. Maynard reached on an error, Tayte Carver singled to load the bases and Trevor Carver had a two-run single.

Tyler Johnson then singled home the final run.

In the completion of Monday’s game, Green scored six times in the ninth inning.

With one out, Kimbler singled, Maynard walked and Tayte Carver singled in a run. Karshner singled to load the bases and Trevor Carver singled in a run.

Tyler Darnell hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored and then Hayden Whitis, Johnson, Trevor Carver, Lewis all followed with RBI singles.

Green hosts Fairland on Thursday.
