Dragons use big 7th inning to rally past Bobcats, 15-10

FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats kept coming until the Fairland Dragons put up a wall.

Green rallied from two early deficits to take a 10-7 lead, but Fairland scored eight times in the seventh inning to get a 15-10 win over the Bobcats on Thursday.

“I’m proud we competed. We fell behind twice and came back. We just didn’t finish. They made some big plays and got some timely hits in the seventh inning. Give them credit,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

Fairland went up 3-0 in the top of the first. Trace Adkins singled, stole second and third, Tyler George walked and Collin Damron hit a sacrifice fly.

Seth Clay was safe on an error as a run scored and Dairus Stapelton had an RBI single.

Green (7-6) answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tanner Kimbler and Rylee Maynard were hit by pitches, Tayte Carver and Josh Karshner both walked for a run. Trevor Carver hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored.

Tyler Johnson grounded out for an RBI and Trevor Carver scored on a wild pitch.

Fairland (5-5) came right back with four runs in the second.

Hayden James and Adkins singled, both moved up on a wild pitch and George had a two-run single. Damron singled, Clay reached on a catcher’s interference, Dylan Raines singled in a run and Austin Christian hit a sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats tied the game with three runs in the third.

Trevor Carver and Tyler Darnell singled, Hayden Whitis beat out an infield hit and a throwing error on the play scored a run.

Kimbler had a two-run single to cap the rally.

Green took a 10-7 lead in the fifth.

With one out, Hunter Lewis, Kimbler and Maynard all singled for a run. After a wild pitch, Tayte Carver reached on a fielder’s choice as Kimbler beat the throw home.

Karshner grounded out for a run and an error on the play scored the final run.

Fairland then put together its winning rally.

Eli Bowen walked, Christian and Michael Tubbs singled to load the bases, and James singled for an RBI. Adkins singled for a run, George walked to force in a run, Clay singled in the go-ahead run and then Evan Burcham unloaded a three-run triple. Bowen grounded out for the final run.

Fairland had 18 hits with Adkins going 3-5, Damron 2-4, and Burcham and Bowen 2-3.

Green had 11 hits as Kimbler was 2-4, Trevor Carver 2-5 and Whitis 2-4.

Fairland visits South Point on Friday. Green visits Chesapeake in a doubleheader on Saturday.
