James Bentley

May 4, 1935—April 15, 2016

James Edward “Ed”  Bentley, Jr., 80 of Ironton, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016, at Jo-Lin Nursing Home. The Ironton native was born May 4, 1935, a son of the late James Edward and Ruth McClellan Bentley. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Fife Bentley, whom he married March 28, 1972.

Mr. Bentley was a 1955 graduate of Ironton High School and a United States Army veteran.  He was a former owner and operator of Southern Wine Carry Out and former member of the Ironton Eagles and Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Patricia McBride and Brent McBride.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Waldo of New York City, New York; a son: PG (Kierstin) McBride of Sunrise Beach, Texas; a son: Michael (Debbie) McBride of Sciotoville; a daughter, Jami (Craig) Thomas of Ironton; a son, Chris Bentley of Chicago, Illinois;10 grandchildren: Mason Waldo, Brea McBride, Luke McBride, Brent McBride, Brandon McBride, Blake McBride, Arisa Fillgrove, Taylor Fillgrove, Lauren Baker, and Ty Bentley Mcbride, who is also a godson to Mr. Bentley; sister-in-law, Nadean (Steve) Messenger of Ironton; and sister-in-law, Mavis Ratliff of Jacksonville, Florida.

Wilbern Cochran

July 11, 1941—April 15, 2016

Wilbern Leslie Cochran, 74, of Ironton passed away, Friday, April 15, 2016 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.  The Kitts Hill native was born July 11, 1941 a son to the late Wilburn and Ella (Kingery) Cochran Sr.  Wilbern is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria (Goody) Cochran.

Mr. Cochran attended Rock Hill School.  Wilbern earned his machinist certificate at Jackson Vocational School.  He later worked as a machinist for National Mines, Eimco Coal where he retired after 35 years of service in 2001. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Royersville Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton.  Wilbern loved to play guitar, fishing, working on vehicles, and taking vacations.

In addition to his wife, Wilbern is survived by three sons, Gary Cochran, Bob Cochran, and Brent Cochran, all of Ironton; two daughters, Twyla Patrick of Kitts Hill and Selena McKnight of Ironton; a son in-law, Rick McKnight of Ironton; a daughter in-law, Valerie Cochran of Ironton; brother-in-law, Bill Goody; sister-in-law, Kendra and Troy Farmer; four brothers, James and the late Helen Cochran, Carl Edward and sister-in-law Dottie Cochran, Larry and Judy Cochran and Rick and Jean Cochran; sister-in-law, Donna Jean Cochran; a sister, Shirley Asbury; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wilbern is preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Turley; two brothers, Kenneth and Donald Cochran; a son in-law, Mark Patrick; a great grandson: Lucas Patrick; a mother in-law: Beatrice Willis; and a sister in-law: Sue Goody.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Timmy Gillette officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Rob Cochran, Christopher Patrick, Tyler Cochran, Andrew Cochran, Rick McKnight, and Nathan McKnight

Claude Chapman

Claude Parker Chapman, 88, of Proctorville, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Naomi Jean Chapman; son Steve Chapman; and daughter Teresa “Terry” Chapman.

Gary Cartmell

April 18, 1937—April 15, 2016

Gary Robert “Bob” Cartmell, 78, of Coal Grove, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Holden, Virginia, native was born April 18, 1937 a son to the late Aden and Zola (Tackett) Cartmell.  Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Davis Cartmell.

Mr. Cartmell was a 1957 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and a United States Air Force veteran.  He was retired from Armco Steel Company in Ashland, Ky. He was of the Missionary Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and was a true outdoorsman.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two sons, Mark (Twila “T”) Cartmell, of Ironton; Mike Cartmell, of Coal Grove; three grandchildren, Josh (Jessica) Cartmell, of Coal Grove; Amy (Eric) Ermie, of Worthington and Sarah Cartmell, of Ironton; a great grandson, Elijah Ermie; two grand pups, Bailey and Bella; four brothers, Jim Cartmell, of Lake Milton, Fred (Thelma) Cartmell, of Reynoldsburg; Bill (Linda) Cartmell, of Cape Coral, Florida and Loval Cartmell, of California; a sister, Glenda Cartmell, of Kentucky; and a sister in-law: Vickie (Gary) Christian, of Ironton.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Cartmell; and a sister, Mary Ervin.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post #8850. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY. 41101. Pallbearers will be: Brian Christian, Eric Ermie, Eric Christian, Josh Cartmell, Sarah Cartmell, Mark Cartmell and honorary pallbearers will be Gary Christian and Dee Carpenter. Paula King

Paula Lynne King, 49, of Proctorville, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at home.  She is survived by her husband Robert King.  Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio.
