FRANLIN FURNACE — Now that’s the way to play a baseball game.

Green’s Tayte Carver pitched a four-hitter and St. Joseph’s Clay Willis tossed a six-hitter as the Bobcats edged the Flyers 1-0 on Thursday in a game that lasted only an hour and 30 minutes.

Carver struck out seven and walked three in going the distance. Willis also threw a complete game as he struck out eight and walked one.

“It was a good old-fashioned ball game. I was proud we played by the book. There was good pitching, good fielding and timely hitting,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“The Willis kid pitched a good ball game. He did a nice job. Tayte pitched a heck of a game for us. He moved the ball around and changed speeds well.”

The Bobcats (11-8) scored the only run of the game in the second inning.

Hunter Lewis had a leadoff single, Tanner Kimbler put down a sacrifice bunt and Carver had a two-out RBI double.

They Flyers mounted a rally in the top of the seventh.

Zac McGraw walked and an out later Willis walked. But Carver struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Hayden Whitis was 2-2 and Carver 2-3 for Green.

The Flyers got four singles from Isaac Whaley, Gage Butler, Seth Kelly and Payton Adkins.

Green visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday. St. Joseph visits Sciotoville East for a doubleheader on Saturday.
