Lady Tigers use walks to trigger win over Eagles

Those walks turned into runs.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers combined seven hits with 15 walks to cruise past the Fairview Lady Eagles 12-3 on Thursday.

Ironton (10-6) was led by Shay Cox who went 2-2 with an RBI, Brooke Elswick who was 2-4 with two runs batted in, and Aley Carmon who went 2-5 with an RBI.

Carmon also got the win with a five-hitter.

Ironton took a 4-0 lead in the second ining.

Carmon singled, Haleigh Rowe was hit by a pitch, Cox walked, Katie Burcham reached on an error, Elswick singled, and Mariah Cooke and Kenzie Cremeens both walked.

A run scored in the third when Ruthie Paholsky and Cox singled and Burcham and Rylie Vaughn walked.

The lead went to 8-0 in the fourth.

Cremeens walked, Carmon was safe on an error and Paholsky, Cox, Vaughn and Cooke all walked.

A run scored in the fifth on a hit by Elswick after walks to Haleigh Rowe, Cox and Holly Bruce all walked to load the bases.

Fairview scored three runs in the sixth but Ironton got them back in the bottom of the inning.

Vaughn walked, Cremeens reached on an error, Carmon singled, Rowe walked and Cox singled.

Ironton hosts Coal Grove on Friday.
