Keaton’s clutch hit rallies Lady Hornets in 7th inning

COAL GROVE — Now that’s clutch.

Khylee Keaton came through with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to an 8-7 win over the South Point Lady Pointers last week.

Coal Grove took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Lauren Meyer got a bunt single, Kasey Murphy doubled and an outfield error allowed a run to score. Lauren Crum grounded out as Murphy scored.

South Point rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the third.

Haley Rawlins reached on an error, Keiana Conwell and Abby Hannah both singled for a run, Holly Ramey hit a sacrifice fly and Laken Adkins singled in the third run.

Coal Grove came back to take a 6-3 lead with four runs in the fifth.

Shelby Zerkle was hit by a pitch and Meyer singled pinch-runner Graci Neice to second. Gracie Riley reached on an error as a run scored, Murphy singled home a run and Moore doubled home two runs.

The Lady Pointers regained the lead in the sixth.

Jamishua Anderson walked, Emilee Powell singled and Rawlins reached on an error as the runners scored.

Hannah doubled home Rawlins to tie the game and Leah Lawson singled in the go-ahead run.

Coal Grove then mounted the winning rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Crum opened the inning with a double and Moore singled. Moore stole second base and Keaton delivered the clutch two-run single to end the game.

Murphy got the win as she struck out two, walked one and none of the runs were earned. Hannah took the loss as she struck out five and walked one.
