AID — When a team commits eight errors in a game, they lose.

Someone forgot to tell the Symmes Valley Vikings.

Despite the defensive lapse, the Vikings managed to rally for a 9-6 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Beaver Eastern Eagles on Friday.

Chayden Renfroe worked 5.1 innings and Laykin Gothard finished up as the Symmes Valley pitchers held Eastern to six hits.

“We got behind early and the kids just kept clawing the whole game. Chayden and Layken both threw pretty well, we just had too many errors,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

“Chayden held his composure and some of the other kids stepped up and made some big plays.”

The Vikings had seven hits with Jase Patterson going 3-4 and three runs batted in.

“Patterson had a good game at the plate,” said coach Renfroe.

Eastern used a triple by Ethan Montgomery and three errors to score three runs in the first inning.

The Vikings got a run in the second when Nick Klaiber hit by a pitch, Blake Bowen walked and the Eagles commited an error.

The Vikings took a 5-3 lead with four runs in the fifth.

Derek Brace was hit by pitch to start the inning and Gothard doubled him home. Payton Hayes then singled to score Gothard.

Cameron Meadows followed with an RBI double and Patterson singled in the final run.

Eastern got three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead, but the Vikings answered with four in the bottom of the inning.

Bowen reached on error, Brace walked and Gothard was safe when his sacrifice bunt was misplayed for an error.

Hayes was safe on an error as a run scored, Meadows walked, Patterson delivered a two-run single and Renfroe squeezed home the final run.
