FRANKLIN FURNACE — It lived up to the billing of a league showdown.

The Green Bobcats and Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans met in a battle of Southern Ohio Conference leaders.

Notre Dame used the two-hit pitching of C.J. Corns to blank the Bobcats 4-0 on Monday.

Corns struck out nine and walked one while Green’s Trevor Carver allowed just four hits, struck out four and walked two. Only one run was earned.

Notre Dame is now 10-4 overall and 8-0 in the SOC. Green is 11-9 and 8-1.

“We played well except for one inning,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “We made three really nice defensive plays. But we had one bad inning and they took advantage of it, so give them credit.”

“It was a well-pitched game by both pitchers. Tip the cap to Corns. He pitched well.”

Green’s only real threat came in the first when Tanner Kimbler singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out but was left stranded.

Notre Dame scored three runs in the fourth.

Drew Cassidy reached on an error, Hayden Baker walked and Chase Rodriguez had an RBI single.

With two outs, a wild pitch moved the runners up a base and Sam Kayser had a two-run single.

A run scored in the sixth when Rodriguez walked, stole second and Kayser had an RBI single.

Kimbler had both hits for the Bobcats.

Green visits Vinton County on Tuesday and Western on Wednesday.
