PEDRO — Change is good. Just ask Brandon Schob.

The Rock Hill Redmen senior pitcher knows how to change speeds to keep hitters off-stride and he did that on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over the River Valley Raiders.

Schob went 5.2 innings, struck out, two, walked one and neither run was earned.

“Schob changed speeds well and he was hitting his spots. I think he just got a little tired. He pitched a good ballgame and gave me the innings we needed,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Landon Smith pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the save. He struck out four and walked one.

“He did a good job. That’s what you want out of a reliever,” said Litteral.

Rock Hill (9-8) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Kyle Stanfield led off with a single, Trae Crabtree put down a sacrifice, Smith reached on an error and a wild pitch scored Stanfield.

River Valley tied the game in the fourth.

Justin Sizemore singled, stole second, went to third on a grounded out by Devin McDonald and scored when Austin Ragen reached on an error.

Rock Hill came back to take the lead for good with two runs in the fifth.

Kaleb Kidd and Stanfield each singled to start the inning. Smith reached on an error and Jake Blagg had an RBI single.

Heath Carpenter reached on a fielder’s choice as he beat the relay on an attempted double play that allowed Stanfield to score.

The Raiders scored their second run in the sixth.

McDonald got a one-out single, Ragan reached on a force play at second, Brumfield singled, both moved up on an error and Ragan scored on a wild pitch third strike.

Stanfield was 2-2 to pace the Redmen.

The Raiders’ Jack Farley was 2-3 with a double while Ragan and Sizemore each went 2-4.

Rock Hill hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.
