PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen did enough things right to get the right results.

Although they didn’t have many hits, the Redmen put things together to edge the Ironton Fighting Tigers 2-0 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was a well-pitched game by both pitchers,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral.

“We didn’t have many baserunners, but we bunched them together at the right time.”

Cody Lewis threw a five-hitter as he out-dueled Cody Rawlins who threw a four-hitter. Lewis struck out five and walked two while Rawlins fanned six and did not walk a batter.

The only two runs scored in the fourth inning.

Brandon Schob reached on an error and Lewis singled and Kaleb Kidd was safe on an error attempting to sacrifice and Schob scored on the play. Lewis then scored on a wild pitch.

Ironton threatened in the second inning on singles by Jake Isaac and Kyle Kleinman and a sacrifice bunt by Bryce Thomas. But Lewis got the next two batters on strikes to end the inning.

The Fighting Tigers threatened in the sixth when Hunter Klaiber walked, Kleinman and Thomas reached on errors but Ethan Duncan flied out deep to right field to end the inning.

“Cody Rawlins pitched a great game. We had four errors that really cost us,” said Ironton coach Larry Goodwin.

“However, you have to score runs to win and we just did not get the timely hits needed to win.”

Heath Carpenter was 2-3 for Rock Hill (9-8, 4-8).

On Monday, Ironton hosts Portsmouth and Rock Hill will entertain Gallipolis in conference games.
