1 killed in car crash

PROCTORVILLE — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on car collision that left one woman dead.

According to the Ironton Post of the OSHP, the crash happened around 9:44 p.m. on Saturday on State Route 775, about three miles north of Proctorville.

According to a release sent out by the post, Gary F. Hetzel Sr., 72, of Proctorville, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on State Route 775 when the car when left of center and struck a 2014 Chrysler Town and County.

The passenger of the Chevrolet, Doris A. Hetzel, 67, of Proctorville, was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington. Gary Hetzel was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Chrysler, 31-year-old Holly A. Dillon, of Proctorville, received non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. There were also two children in that vehicle, a 4- and 2-year-old, who were also listed as receiving non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash, which closed State Route 775 for about three hours, remains under investigation.
