ASHTON, W.Va. — All aboard.
The St. Joseph Female Flyers dominated the offensive boards as they beat the Hannan Lady Wildcats 47-28 on Wednesday.
St. Joseph (3-2) pulled down 42 rebounds with 28 on the offensive end.
“We didn’t play well and we were still able to get a win,” said Female Flyers’ coach Nick Miller.
“We missed a lot of shots, but we did a good job on the offensive boards and we were able to get a second shot. I was happy with that, but we still have to do a better job.”
Morgan Turner scored 20 points and 5 steals to pace the Female Flyers. Kaitlyn Sheridan added 9 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists.
Leading the Female Flyers’ rebounding were Ashley Bartram and Lauren Bush with 9 each with Megan Riley grabbing 8.
Madison Staggs scored 12 points and Lyndsey Holley 8 to lead Hannan (0-5).
Turner scored 5 points in the first quarter as St. Joseph took a 12-4 lead.
Turner had 5 more points in the second quarter and the lead was 21-12 at the break. Holley got 4 points for the Lady Wildcats.
Turner got 8 more points in the third quarter to help offset 5 points by Staggs and 4 by Holley as St. Joseph went up 34-21.
Bush and Bartram scored 4 points each in the fourth quarter as the Female Flyers continued to pull away.
“Hopefully we’ll continue to improve. We had too many turnovers and we’ve been doing a better job at that the past few games,” said Miller.
St. Joseph plays at 6 p.m. on Friday at Ohio Valley Christian and at Fairview, Ky., on Dec. 16.
