NORTH CANTON — Trey Fletcher and Zac Carter have been doing things together on the basketball court since they were in grade school.
Even even now as seniors at Walsh University, they are still quite the tandem.
The former Ironton Fighting Tigers’ All-Ohio duo celebrated the past two weeks with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week honors.
Two weeks ago, the 5-foot-9, 168-pound Carter earned top weekly honors when he led the Cavaliers to two wins on the Thanksgiving week with a 93-74 win at Malone for the season sweep and a 103-78 win at home against Glenville State on Saturday.
The senior point guard led Walsh with 27 points in each game.
Against Malone, he went 9-of-17 from the field and followed up with a better performance against GSC as he shot 12-of-19. Overall he shot 58.3 percent, 21-of-36, and was 5-of-10 from 3-point range. He also helped the team in other areas with an average of four rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
Adding an exclamation point to his impressive week, he became the 41st player in Walsh history to join the 1,000 point club.
This past week the 6-foot-6, 237-pound Fletcher won the weekly award as he averaged 19.5 points and shot 59.3 percent from the field as Walsh (6-1, 1-1) split a pair of games last week.
On the season, Fletcher is averaging 19.1 points on 53.1-percent shooting from the field and 6.6 rebounds.
Fletcher recorded his 1,000th career point last season.
Both Carter and Fletcher scored 1,000 points during their Ironton careers and Carter is the school’s all-time leding scorer.
