The next home game the St. Joseph Female Flyers might need to turn up the heat.
St. Joseph suffered its worst overall shooting night in a 39-26 loss to the Portsmouth West Lady Senators on Thursday.
The Female Flyers (4-5) were just 10-of-48 from the field for 21 percent, 4-of-13 from the foul line for 31 percent, and 2-of-16 from behind the arc for 12.5 percent.
“We didn’t hit shots and we gave up a lot of easy layups at the end. We didn’t play well and we were in the game until the last two minutes,” said Female Flyers’ coach Nick Miller.
Morgan Turner had 12 points to lead the Female Flyers. Kaitlyn Sheridan added 7 points.
Megan Riley had  9 rebounds, Ashley Bartram 8 and Lauren Bush 7 for St. Joseph.
Makayla White scored 17 points to lead West. Madison Compton got 8 points.
West scored the first 8 points of the game and took a 10-2 lead as White scored 6 points.
Turner scored 9 of her points in the second quarter as St. Joseph tied the game 18-18 at the half.
Both teams struggled in the third quarter as West took a 21-20 lead.
White scored 8 points and Compton 6 in the fourth quarter as West outscored the Female Flyers 18-6. St. Joseph trailed by just 4 points with less than two minutes to play.
St. Joseph visits Trimble at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
