WILLOW WOOD — As Jeff Dunham’s puppet Peanut would say, “That’s good, that’s good, that’s good, that’s gooood.”
The South Point Lady Pointers put together a good all-around effort as they beat the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings 63-37 on Thursday in a non-league game.
“It was a good team effort. We had good balance on offense and a good defensive effort,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
“Symmes Valley has good size and gave us trouble in the first half, especially with Shepherd. We made some adjustments at halftime and Abbey Hannah led the way offensively.”
Hannah had three 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Lady Pointers (7-3). Emilee Whitt scored 10 points, Emilee Carey 9 and Kate Mundy added 8.
Jensyn Shepherd led the Lady Vikings (6-4) with 11 points. Payton Walsh scored 8 in the loss.
Six different players scored as South Point took a 14-9 first quarter lead. Shepherd had 4 points for the Lady Vikings.
Hannah had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Mundy got 4 points as the Lady Pointers opened up a 30-19 halftime lead.
Sierra Ross and Walsh hit 3-pointers for the Lady Vikings in the quarter.
The Lady Pointers stretched the lead to 43-26 after three quarters. Hannah had 5 more points with another triple and Whitt got 4 points as the Lady Pointers held Symmes Valley to just 7 points in the quarter.
South Point outscored the Lady Vikings 20-11 in the fourth quarter as the lead continued to grow. The Lady Pointers were 5-of-8 at the line in the quarter.
Next Thursday, South Point visits Gallipolis and Symmes Valley hosts Sciotoville East.
