PORTSMOUTH — The St. Joseph Flyers came out with guns blazing and hitting bull’s-eyes that would make Buffalo Bill proud.
The Flyers shot 54.3 percent from the field including 57 percent from 3-point range as they beat the New Boston Tigers 63-53 on Saturday.
“We came out of the gate and played well. We shot well in the first half (60 percent) and we shared the ball. When you do that you get good shots,” said Flyers’ coach Rex Cooksey.
Sharing the ball enabled four players to hit double figures for the Flyers (9-10).
Chase Walters had 19 points and eight rebounds, Zac McGraw 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Isaac Whaley 13 points — he made four 3-pointers — and eight assists, and Peyton Adkins added 10 points.
Kade Conley scored 17 and Malaki Potts 11 for New Boston (3-10).
Whaley hit three trifectas and Walters scored six points as St. Joseph jumped in front 20-12 in the first quarter.
Adkins had five points and McGraw four in the second quarter as the Flyers went up 34-21 at the break.
McGraw scored seven points as St. Joseph stretched its lead to 53-34 after three quarters.
Walters got seven points of his own in the fourth quarter.
The Flyers were 25-of-46 from the field overall and 8-of-14 from behind the arc. They had 21 assists.
St. Joseph hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Tuesday, Racine Southern on Friday and Portsmouth Clay on Saturday.
