ROCKSPRINGS — It goes under the heading of “some things never change.”
For the third time this season, the St. Joseph Female Flyers were locked in a tight game with the Trimble Lady Tomcats. And for the third time things didn’t go their way.
The Female Flyers lost 37-26 to Trimble on Monday in the Division IV sectional tournament semifinals.
Trimble won the previous two meetings this season 37-33 and 42-37.
St. Joseph shot just 8-of-49 from the field for 16 percent and only 2-of-20 from the 3-point line.
“We didn’t shoot well and that’s been a problem for us all year,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.
“But I’m proud of our girls. They played hard all year and we won 10 games for the second straight season. The effort and attitude was there all year.”
Alyson Johnson had six points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Female Flyers (10-13). Ashlee Blankenship had seven rebounds and Megan Riley grabbed six rebounds.
Sydney Hardy scored 12 points while Emily Ward had eight points and 12 rebounds for Trimble (9-14).
The Lady Tomcats took a 13-5 first quarter lead and stretched the spread to 26-7 into the second quarter before St. Joseph got within 26-11 at the half.
St. Joseph held Trimble to two points in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 28-24.
But the Female Flyers went stone cold in the fourth quarter and made just 1-of-14 from the field as Trimble began to pull away.
