Events raise awareness

“Together,” “What’s your story?” Those are a couple phrases that have been integral focuses that have strong meanings. And each are just two of many themes that will be seen and heard through March during the annual Lawrence County Board of Development Disabilities events to raise awareness.

Over the next several weeks, the Board of DD will hosts several events that play a critical role in raising awareness about those who live with developmental disabilities.

Some of those events include a craft show and chili fest, Dr. Seuss Day and basketball games throughout the month of March.

The goals of the events are simple. They are about remembering to be mindful that those living with developmental disabilities are just like those who don’t. They are residents of Lawrence County that just want to be like everyone else, to be able to live their lives without any stereotypes, and to reach for their individual goals and dreams.

We applaud the efforts of the Lawrence County Board of Developmental Disabilities, those who attend, volunteer and participate in the events held each March.

Being a part of these events is a great way to show those who have developmental disabilities in Lawrence County that they are a big part of what makes our community special.
