Ashland Community and Technical College to host upcoming events

ASHLAND — Several events are on the horizon at Ashland Community and Technical College.

From 7-9:30 p.m. tonight for Black History Month, A Night at the Apollo talent contest will take place at the ACTC J.B. Sowards Theater, where amateur performers in the Tri-State will show off their talents.

Auditions for ACTC’s Fourth Annual New Play Festival will be conducted from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, and from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the J.B. Sowards Theater. Auditions are open to ACTC students, faculty and staff, area high school and college students, and members of the community. No advance preparation or experience is required, and those auditioning will be asked to read cold readings from the scripts.

The Fourth Annual New Play Festival features a collection of short plays, scenes and monologues written by students in the Fall 2016 English 207-Playwriting class, taught by Jonathan Joy, professor of English and writing.

The shows are set for 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 8 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9.

A Young Men’s conference for boys in 10th grade is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, at the ACTC Technology Drive Campus, located on Technology Drive just off the Industrial Parkway (KY 67) in Grayson, Kentucky. Speakers and other details for the conference have not yet been announced.

Also at the Technology Drive Campus is the Emerging Technologies Conference on Friday, March 10, although details about the conference have not yet been announced.

On the first Tuesday of each month, ACTC hosts Tour Tuesday, which is an opportunity for people to learn more about the school, the admissions process and see the facilities. An ACTC success Coach will guide visitors and answer any questions that they may have.
