PORTSMOUTH — Brooke Webb pulled double duty.
Webb pitched a six-hitter and hit a game-tying home run as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers rallied to beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 5-4 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Saturday.
Webb struck out 13 and walked two in going the distance. Andi Queen struck out nine and walked two in taking the loss.
“Webb had a good game, but both pitchers threw it well,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
“Webb got the big hit, but we had a lot of people contribute with some clutch hits. It was a good team effort.”
Ryleigh Swann and Lyric Bair each went 2-4 and Jenny Mills was 2-3 as Chesapeake had 12 hits. Webb was 3-4 with four RBI.
Chesapeake (3-3, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Swann singled, Katy Spears had a sacrifice bunt and Webb singled.
Portsmouth got two runs in the bottom of the inning.
With two outs, Queen walked and Semajah Parker tripled for a run. Eliza Gullett followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Trojans got two more runs with two outs in the second.
Shaby McKinley walked and Sharia Kearns tripled for a run and then Baleigh Bradley doubled home Kearns.
The score remained that way until the seventh.
Swann opened the inning with a single, Spears singled and Webb cranked a long three-run homer.
Bair singled with one out and Breanna Russell doubled. Mills then singled home pinch-runner Lilly Turner with what proved to be the winning run.
Webb then retired Portsmouth in order in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
Bradley was 2-4 for Portsmouth.
