Crews still out daily

The search for a woman who may have jumped off the Ironton-Russell bridge is still continuing.

“There were three or four agencies out (on Monday),” said Ironton interim police chief Joe Ross.

Officials have been out daily looking for three weeks.

A report came in to Greenup 911on the evening of March 29 that a woman had parked her car in the middle of the bridge and then jumped into river. The Russell Police Department is in charge of the search because the bridge is their jurisdiction.

The Russell Fire Department had been using a boat to search the river, but no body has been located yet.

Russell PD Detective Phillip Kerns said he has been talking to people on social media who claimed to have seen the woman jump in but it turned out to be lies.

“I talked to the Russell Police chief. He said they are looking and searching every day and they are going to continue to search every day until they find this body,” Ross said.

The spring weather has been making the search more difficult.

“With the river has been up and then down and then up again. It’s rolling really fast again,” Ross said. “It has made the search that much more difficult. Hopefully, down river something will turn up.”

Although there are rumors going around about who jumped into the river, the police have not released a name because they have not made a positive identification yet and until a body is found, they aren’t sure if a woman did jump in the river.

Anyone has any information that could held law enforcement and emergency agencies involved in the search, they are asked to contact the Ironton Police Department at 740-532-2338 or the Greenup County 911.
