CHESAPEAKE — One bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch, but one big inning sure can spoil things for an opponent.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers used a nine-run fourth inning and the pitching of Brooke Webb to blank the South Point Lady Pointers 9-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Webb struck out 17, did not walk a batter and allowed just four hits to get the win.
“Webb threw really well. She located better and she had good velocity,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice.
“It was a good ball game except we put everything together in the fourth inning and with Webb pitching that was enough to win.”
In the fourth, Jenny Mills had a one-out single, Chloe Handley reached on a fielder’s choice and Ashley Tackett walked. Ryleigh Swann and Katy Spears had RBI singles and Webb walked to force in a run.
Jordan Storms, Lyric Bair and Breanna Russell all singled in runs and Handley doubled in the final run.
Russell was 2-3 for Chesapeake while Reece Duncan went 2-3 for South Point.
On Wednesday, Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill and South Point entertains Gallipolis.
