SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers committed nine errors.
Count ‘em, nine.
The Gallipolis Blue Devils took advantage the Pointers shoddy defense to post an 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
The game was scoreless until the Blue Devils got four runs in the third.
Quinten Yarger reached on an error, went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Braden Simms was safe on an error.
Tanner Allen and John Stout both reached on errors as runs scored. Garrett McGuire was hit by a pitch and Brody Thomas hit a sacrifice fly.
The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth inning.
Bailey Walker singled and went to second on a wild pitch. An out later, Allen was safe on an error and Davis had a two-out RBI single. McGuire singled and Thomas walked to force in a run.
South Point (10-5, 4-4) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Max Tabor and Logan Rose walked and Drew Smith reached on an error as a run scored. Smith stole second and an error on the play scored Rose.
Tanner Hall was safe on a fielder’s choice and stole second. Brody Blackwell hit a sacrifice fly and Hall went to third on the play. Travis Dillon singled in the final run.
Gallipolis (7-5, 4-3) added a run in the sixth on a single by Stout and a double by McGuire.
The Blue Devils also got a run in the seventh when Kaden Thomas walked, went to second on Walker’s sacrifice, stole third and scored on an error.
South Point hosts Rock Hill on Friday.
