Lady Pointers get by Trojans

SOUTH POINT — This game belonged to the pitchers along with some clutch hitting by the South Point Lady Pointers.
South Point got two runs in the sixth inning to help give Holly Ramey the pitching win as the Lady Pointers edged the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Ramey and Portsmouth’s Andi Queen each gave up six hits and struck out six batters, but the Lady Pointers found a way to win.
“We played good defense behind a strong pitching performance by Holly Ramey,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin.
“We were able to get some timely hits in the sixth inning that put us over the top.”
Portsmouth got its only run in the first inning when Queen doubled and scored on a hit by Semajah Parker.
South Point (5-11, 4-5) was held scoreless until their two-run rally in the sixth.
Sophie Morris singled, Laken Adkins reached on an error and Abby Hannah tripled them home.
Morris and Hannah each went 2-3 with Hannah getting a double and a triple. Parker was 2-3 for Portsmouth.
On Wednesday, South Point hosts Ironton and Portsmouth entertains Rock Hill.
